DRAWING THE CLASSICAL BUST
THURSDAY AUGUST 6 – 27
There is no better way to study the head than to go back to the masters and draw from them. That is precisely what we do in this course. Each session will begin with an in-depth slide lecture using a series of Greek and Roman busts to explore the construction of the idealized features and surface muscles and the bony architecture they are built upon.
Students will be given reference drawings from various stages of the drawing process to see how focal points, line weight, symmetrical points across the middle line, and the shading of light and shadow all work together to create composition with clarity and draftsmanship with conviction. During each 5- hour class the professor will give specific one-on-one ongoing verbal and visual critiques by drawing anatomical schematics on images of the students’ work in progress and comparing them to the master works.
Students can use these personalized guides until they are ready for more feedback and can watch and learn from other students critique as well as everyone will be working from similar images.
