Students will become aware of different approaches and techniques in sketching a model from life. We will explore how sunlight, shadow, multiple reflections, and uncommon gestures change our understanding of the basic properties of the human figure and the very painting.

PORTFOLIO PREPARATION SUMMER INTENSIVE: Upstate NY Horse Farm Retreat
July 11th – 20th, 2022
This summer, give your child the rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the portfolio creation process fully. Princeton Academy of Art’s Portfolio Preparation Summer Intensive offers students ten days of intense portfolio-production time with 6+ hours per day of work time.
We are excited to announce that this year’s camp will be at a beautiful horse farm in upstate New York.
Each summer, students knock out a major portion of their college portfolio under the guidance of industry professionals. At our camp, instructors will introduce students to different working styles to expand their familiarity with materials, 2-D vs. 3-d structures, and video creation/ artwork documentation.
A destination-based art camp (real camping!) allows students to connect with like-minded peers and surround themselves with creativity and natural inspiration for ten consecutive days.
The 83-acre property boasts horse pastures, a scenic creek, safe wooded areas, and more that students can explore under the direct supervision of their instructors.
There are 6-10 horses boarded on the property at a time that they can greet, interact with and draw throughout their stay.
Projects are unique to the student, their interest, and their aesthetic preferences. Instructors act as a guidance and support system for each student.
Students live in large cabin-like tents. Most tents will have 5-6 campers (every tent has at least one camp counselor). Each tent will remain dedicated to male-identifying only and female-identifying only campers. The bathroom and showers are nearby.
The average daytime temperature is between 75° & 80°; nighttime is 60-65°. Our camp food is farm fresh, home-cooked, and locally sourced. Two times per week, PAA will treat students to a meal off-site to support local businesses in the area. Lunch and dinner will always have salads and vegetables available and plenty of meat, pasta, milk, juice, and dessert. Vegetarian options will always be provided and will be equally delicious.
Below you will find a general camp-day schedule with a few images of our beautiful location. If you are interested in this camp, please reach out to PAA directly via email…
